Thank you to those that participated in our nonprofit heart screening program on May 5, 2026 at GISD.
The heart screening included an ECG. An ECG is a snapshot of the heart’s electrical activity at a point in time. SCA is the leading cause of death in sports and on school campuses, but it can be prevented through early detection and by being prepared in the event of a cardiac emergency.
A board-certified cardiologist has reviewed the findings.
Any abnormal EKGS, the parents have been notified. If your child's test was normal, no one will call you.
“Normal” means the findings of this particular ECG were within normal range and they are considered low risk for heart problems.
According to the International Recommendations for ECG Screening in young athletes, a child’s heart should be screened at least every other year.
Family history is important and may also play a role in a child’s heart health. If you become aware of any of these in your family history, please seek out a physician's advice:
• Family history of heart disease
• Unexpected death during physical activity or seizure
• Unexplained death of a seemingly healthy family member under age 50
• Unexplained near/drowning or car accident of family member
Thank you for participating in this very important screening!
If your child has medication in the nurse office, prescription or over the counter medications, a parent/guardian must come to the school to pick the medication up.
Any Medication that is not picked up on or before the last day of school will be properly disposed of. No medications will be stored for the following year.
You may pick up medications anytime. The LAST day to pick up will be during the last day of school 5/21/26 between 8 am-1200 pm.
It is the parent’s responsibility to contact the nurse office on or before the last day of school (5/21/26) to set a date and time to collect all remaining medications, if medication pick up day is not a convenient pick up day.

Using the hand-stitching skills they learned in our basic apparel maintenance unit, they brought 2nd graders’ “Love Monster” designs to life—creating personalized plushies as close to each child’s vision as possible. Our child development read the 2nd graders their “love monster” book to open the lesson about teach children about self-acceptance and belonging.
The story shows that even if you feel different or like you don’t quite fit in, you are still worthy of love—and sometimes you just need to look in the right place to find people who appreciate you for who you are.
This project gave my high schoolers real-world experience in communication, problem-solving, and service, while the 2nd graders saw their creativity valued and turned into something tangible. A perfect example of learning with purpose, learning truly came to life in this project!

Using shoebox creations, they modeled how children ages 1–5 grow through emotional/social, physical, moral, and intellectual development. 🧠💛
This hands-on project aligns with TEKS by applying real-world understanding of early childhood development in a creative way.
Learning + creativity = success! ✨
