Notice to Parents:
GISD Gifted and Talented Program
Garrison ISD provides testing for our gifted and talented program once each school year.
If you are interested in having your student screened, please speak to the GISD Gifted and Talented Coordinator.
You will be asked to complete a Parent Survey and Permission to Test form.
Testing will take place between January 15th and March 15th. The specific date will be determined by the campus.
If your student qualifies for the gifted and talented program, you will receive a notification letter of placement/qualification, and you will be asked to sign a Parent Permission for Services form.
If your student does not qualify, he/she may not be referred for testing again until the Open Referral Period during the following school year.
The Open Referral Period is from October 15th through December 15th. At that time, if you are interested in having your student screened, contact the GISD Gifted and Talented Coordinator.
If your student has been previously identified as gifted and talented in their prior public school district, he/she is eligible to receive services in Garrison ISD if placement can be verified.
To verify placement, you must provide a copy of your student’s notification of qualification and placement into the gifted and talented program from your former district AND a copy of all test results used in screening.
If you can provide the required documentation, you will be asked to complete a Parent Permission for Services - Transfer Student form. Once permission is granted, your student will begin receiving services.
If you cannot provide the required documentation, your student may be referred for testing during the Open Referral Periodfrom October 15th through December 15th.
GISD does not accept private school or counselor/physicians evaluations.
